Last year, a City of Helsinki campaign that coincided with Finland’s rotating EU presidency invited residents to ‘walk the circumference of the globe’ around Töölö Bay to collect money for Baltic Sea protection. Residents rose to the occasion, and in honour of this achievement, the City of Helsinki donated 50,000 euros to the worthy cause.

The donation was channelled to Baltic Sea Challenge’s speedy experiments, projects that seek new and innovative ways to protect the Baltic Sea from plastic waste. After an application period last spring, four companies were selected to carry out pilots, with the experiments starting up in the summer and autumn. Tune in to hear Helsinki’s Deputy Mayor Anni Sinnemäki explain more about these exciting pilots.
